Parent coaches are the backbone of a successful volunteer-based youth sports organization. Prospective parents interested and/or available in coaching are required to submit an electronic application (annually) to become a volunteer coach. Prospective volunteer coaches shall be adults of age 25 or older. Younger applicants may be approved at the discretion of the GLL Board. The GLL Board highly encourages and desires parent and family member volunteer coaches. Although any parent is welcome to coach, interested parents ideally have an introductory level of coaching proficiency, and/or baseball-specific knowledge, skills, and experience.
Background checks
Little League International and the GLL Board requires periodic background checks be conducted (no less than annually) on all current and/or prospective coaches. Prospective coaches shall submit personal information electronically to the league registration system. The league registration system connects with a third party private background check provider in order to obtain publicly known information related to national/state/local criminal records, sex offender registries, address verification systems, and social security number documentations. Background check results will be reviewed and considered by the GLL Board.
Mandatory training
Coaches are also required to accomplish periodic concussion, first aid, and child safety training as directed and/or assigned by the GLL/GJBA Board and/or Little league International.
